James George Knox, born November 27, 1926, went to be with
Jesus and Jacqueline on Saturday evening, March 30th. Jim was born to George Anderson (Knox) and Zola Verena (Longhofer) in Topeka,
Kansas during the great depression, a time that molded his strength of
character and unfailing determination. He was the only boy of four
children—three adoring sisters: Mary, Marge, June… all of whom are still very
much alive.
As a young rebel, Jim left home at the age of fifteen to
join the Navy, serving in WWII aboard the USS Cowpens and in Tokyo Bay when The
Treaty of Peace was signed. He graduated from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas.
He married the love of his life, Jacqueline Blanche Cook, just two months after meeting her at a fraternity party. They shared 54
loving and adventurous years until Jackie's passing in 2002.
Jim's illustrious career took him to notable cities throughout the country, including Chicago, IL where children, Kevin and Janene, entered the picture. He served as Executive for Neiman Marcus in Dallas, Texas working with luminary, Stanley Marcus, to create and build the famed luxury brand and catalog
business. Jim's distinguished retail career continued in Kansas City, KS where he
served as Vice President of the high end boutique department store, Swanson’s
on the Plaza. As Entrepreneur and Inventor Jim developed and owned
several businesses including renowned, Kaylien Doors located in Santee, CA from which he retired after Jacqueline's passing.
Alongside his esteemed career, Jim is best known for his
political activism, writing cutting edge, ahead-of-its-time commentary under
his foundation, “American FOCUS (Fellowship Organization of Conservative
Ubiquitous Scribes).” He was considered a “Who’s Who” of conservative thinkers
and his comprehensive and sometimes controversial world views inspired
political writers to frequently quote him and seek his insights. Jim was a
Patriot, motivated by love-of-country and the ideals founded by its
forefathers. He was a world traveler, having a deep affection for France,
his bride’s homeland and heritage, but loving no other land more than his
America.
From an early age, Jim fell
in love with God, mentored by generations of family members who dedicated their
lives to serving the church. His relationship with the Lord was reverent,
consistent, loving, stirring. Men he most admired were Dr. Norman Vincent
Peale, Dr. D James Kennedy, and Dr. James Garlow for their unflinching
willingness to stand for biblical principles in a changing world.
Jim was compassionate, loyal, tough, determined, creative, inspiring,
headstrong, brilliant, leader, writer, teacher, mentor, giver, inventor, loyalist,
fighter, Patriot, child-of-God, defender, entrepreneur, classic, original,
one-of-a-kind. He was a champion of people and of this Nation’s principles and possibilities.
His grandsons called him “Boss.” He simply was precisely that in every possible way.
Jim died peacefully at his daughter's side in
his home in Napa, California where he recently moved to be with the Kraft
family where son-in-law, Ron Kraft, serves as President, Napa Valley Community
College.
He is survived by sisters Mary Knight, Marge Cowperthwaite
(husband, Glen), June Mikulka and their precious families. Son, Kevin Knox (wife,
Karen), Daughter, Janene
Kraft, (husband, Ron), Granddaughter, Kelli Kraft Fraas (husband, Matt) and Great Grandsons Conner, Cole, Collin. Grandsons
Kyle Damon, Cameron James, and Quinn Jenner Kraft and his “French son,” Stéphane Noet.
Jim—there has never been and never will be another quite
like you. Peace now and forever more. Peace.
